At a glance
- Discover is a self-serve research tool: you create a workspace, design a study, invite people to an AI voice or typed interview, and get transcripts, analysis and documents.
- You agree to these Terms, our Data Processing Agreement (DPA) and our Acceptable Use rules when you tick "I agree" at sign-up. There is nothing else to sign.
- You are responsible for the people you interview: having a lawful reason to interview them, telling them how their answers will be used, and honouring their requests. We process their data for you, under the DPA.
- AI output can be wrong. Check it before you rely on it.
- Paid plans are monthly and renew automatically until you cancel. Interview minutes are used while an interview is connected.

2. Who can use Discover
- Discover is for businesses and other organisations, and for individuals acting for them in the course of their work. It is not offered to consumers.
- You must be at least 18 and able to bind the organisation you sign up for. "You" means that organisation.
- Account holders sign in with a one-time email code. Keep access to your email secure; you are responsible for activity in your workspace.
3. The Service
Discover lets you: create studies and discussion guides; invite participants by email or an open link; run interviews with an AI interviewer by voice or text; store transcripts; generate analysis, summaries and documents; and ask questions of your research ("Ask Discover").
We may improve and change features. If we remove a feature you pay for in a way that materially reduces the Service, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel.
4. Your research and your participants
You are the controller of personal data about your participants. You must:
- have a lawful basis to interview each participant and to process what they say;
- tell participants who you are, why you are interviewing them, and how their answers will be used. Discover shows every participant a consent screen before an interview starts (that it is an AI conversation, that it is recorded and transcribed, that answers may be analysed with AI and shared with your team, and that they can stop at any time). That screen does not replace your own notice;
- not interview anyone under 18, and not collect special category data (for example health, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation) or criminal-offence data unless you have a lawful basis and appropriate safeguards — and never purely to profile individuals;
- respond to participants' requests to access, correct or delete their data. We will help as set out in the DPA;
- comply with the law that applies to your research, including data protection, marketing and employment law.
Our processing of participant data on your behalf is governed by the DPA, which forms part of these Terms.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use Discover to:
- deceive participants, including about the fact that they are talking to an AI;
- harass, threaten or discriminate against anyone, or collect data to stalk or surveil people;
- run interviews that are unlawful where they take place, or invite people who have not agreed to be contacted;
- upload or elicit malware, illegal content or content you have no right to use;
- probe, overload or bypass the security or limits of the Service, or access other workspaces;
- resell the Service, or use it or its outputs to build a competing product or train AI models, without our written agreement.
We may suspend a study or account that breaches this section, with notice where practical.
6. AI output
Discover uses third-party AI models (listed on our sub-processors page) to run interviews and to analyse, summarise and draft. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete or biased, and quotes should be checked against the transcript. You are responsible for how you use outputs and for decisions you make with them.
We do not use your content or your participants' data to train AI models, and we use our AI sub-processors on terms that do not allow them to train their models on it.
7. Plans, minutes and payment
- Free. A new workspace gets a one-off allowance of 5 interview minutes. It is not renewed, and closing and reopening a plan does not grant it again.
- Paid plans. Basic, Pro and Premium are billed monthly at the US-dollar prices shown on the pricing page when you subscribe. Each includes a number of interview minutes for that month. VAT is added where it applies.
- Minutes. Minutes are used while an interview is connected. Included minutes do not roll over to the next month. Purchased top-up minutes do not expire while your account is open, are used after your included minutes, and are not refunded when the account closes.
- Top-ups. On a paid plan you can buy extra minutes at the price shown on the pricing page.
- Auto top-up (where your plan includes it). When an interview is about to start, we check your balance. If it is below the threshold you chose, we charge your saved card the amount you chose and add those minutes. If that charge is declined, no minutes are added, and the interview starts only if your existing balance allows it.
- Renewal. Paid plans renew automatically each month until you cancel.
- Cancelling. You can cancel in Settings → Billing. Your plan and its included minutes stay until the end of the month you have paid for. Then the included minutes are removed and the workspace moves to Free, with no new free allowance. Purchased minutes are kept. Cancelling a plan does not switch off auto top-up; turn that off separately in Settings → Billing.
- Failed payments. If a monthly payment fails, Stripe retries it. While it is overdue, new interviews are paused until it is paid.
- Refunds. Fees are non-refundable, except where the law requires, where we materially reduce a paid feature (§3), or where you close your account after objecting to a new sub-processor (DPA §5). In those cases we refund the unused part of the month.
- Disputes and chargebacks. If a payment is disputed, we may suspend the workspace and reverse the minutes bought with that payment until it is resolved.
- Price changes. We will give at least 30 days' notice of a price increase, effective from your next renewal.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details.
8. Your content
You own your content: studies, guides, transcripts, analysis and documents ("Customer Content"). You give us a licence to host, process and display it only to provide and secure the Service for you, and as the DPA allows.
9. Our property
We own the Service, its software and design. Feedback you send us may be used freely.
10. Confidentiality and security
We protect Customer Content with technical and organisational measures described in the DPA and on our Trust Centre (trust.thisisuniversal.com).
11. Suspension and termination
- You can close your account at any time by emailing privacy@thisisuniversal.com from your account email address.
- We may suspend or close an account for serious or repeated breach, non-payment, or where required by law. We will give notice where practical.
- On closure you can export your data first (Settings → Account → Export). We delete Customer Content as set out in the DPA.
12. Liability
- Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything that cannot be limited by law.
- Neither party is liable for indirect or consequential loss, or loss of profit, revenue, goodwill or data (except our obligations under the DPA to protect data).
- Each party's total liability in any 12 months is limited to the greater of the fees you paid us in that period and £100.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We will give at least 30 days' notice of material changes by email or in the product. If you do not agree you may cancel before they take effect.
14. General
- Governing law: England and Wales; the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
- If part of these Terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies.
- These Terms, the DPA and the Acceptable Use rules are the entire agreement for self-serve use. Enterprise customers may instead sign an agreement with us, which then prevails.
